I’m Kenji Watanabe, a creative director of advertising. I like old French cars. I'm also a French film, music and culture enthusiast.
I wanted Matra530 for a long time. It could be seen in Steve McQueen's movie 'Le Mans'. However, it was not officially imported into Japan at that time. So I looked for a car in Europe. Later, in 2016, I found it in the same color as that of the movie 'Le Mans' in the Netherlands and imported it personally.
The appearance of the imported car was beautiful. However, because the interior was dirty and the piston engine was broken, the original engine was lost.
Therefore, the engine was overhauled and the interior was rebuilt. Engine parts were imported mainly from Germany, and the interior was searched on eBay etc. with reference to the material at the time. Carpets were sewn at home by myself.
It has been brilliantly revived and is one of only four existing Matra 530s currently in Japan.
I currently enjoy participating in classic car events in Japan.
