Citroën SM from the USA
This 1972 Citroën SM comes from California, some people might disagree with the 'sealed' beam headlights but how this car looks is exactly how it rolled out the factory in 1972. The warm and dry climate in the southern state of the states conserved this car perfectly. I am happy that the person who i sold this car to, thinks the same. Leave everything original on the outside and make it a new car in technical matters.
So no body work had to be done, no welding, no painting like it is 10 year old car! But still it is a lot of work to get this machine running properly again. The cilinder heads went off to replace the valves, a must with those Maserati engines. Then the carburettors went in an ultrasone bath to get rid of all sediment what has been building up the past 49 years. Brakes, driveshafts and suspension spheres got overhauled and of course the exhaust system got some new 'plumbing work".
Now the next step is to register the car on the Dutch roads, for this it needed headlights with the same look but with an European lightbeam. Also the interior needed some care, that's a downside of the Californian sun, all the leather and foam parts got 'sunburnt'. Before the interior came in i cleaned the floors and gave it a transparent layer to prevent any rust in the future, still it looks if nothing ever happend to the floor. The rear lights are to discolored for the safety approval. Changing them wouldn't match the paint so i replaced the transparent bulbs by red ones, problem solved! The ashtray cover works again and even the original SM radio works with the original speakers.
The last steps are re adjusting the carburettors, making the electric windows run again and replace the door panels.
